used to 와 would 의 차이

used to - 현재는 하지 않는 과거의 습관

would - 현재는 어떤지 모르고 그냥 과거의 습관을 나타냄

Before moving to this place, I used to walk to work.

(지금은 걸어다니지 않음)

☆★화용론적 관점 - 실제 전체적인 문맥(담화)에서 쓰임새

-처음에 used to를 사용하여 과거를 나타내고 그 다음 기술할 경우 would를 사용

 The bad thing was they used to laugh at us. The Anglo kids. They would laugh because we’d bring tortillas and frijoles to lunch. They would have their nice little compact lunch boxes with cold milk in their thermos and they’d laugh at us because all we had was dried tortillas. Not  only would they laugh at us, but the kids would pick fights. 

 We used to joke about him in the office. We’d call him Mr. Straight because he was Mr. Straight- a man who’d never invite me to have a drink after work. He would never invite me to lunch alone. Would never, never make an overture to me.
